iPhone photos arrive as HEIC, and anything you want to edit, annotate or composite is better off as PNG. Unlike JPG, PNG stores the frame losslessly, so screenshots of documents, receipts and whiteboards stay crisp when you mark them up.
HEIC is what your iPhone saves photos as by default since iOS 11. It holds roughly the same picture as a JPG in half the space, but outside the Apple ecosystem support is still patchy.
The decoded frame is written pixel for pixel, so nothing is lost after the initial HEIC decode. Files get considerably larger — a 2 MB HEIC can easily become 8 MB or more as PNG — which is the price of lossless storage.
What you gain with PNG: Lossless quality, an alpha channel for transparency and universal support in every browser and operating system.
Drop your HEIC file above and Morphio decodes it locally, then re-encodes it as PNG using WebAssembly + the browser's native codecs. Nothing is ever uploaded — your files stay on your device. Batch as many files as your machine can handle. See exactly how in-browser conversion works.
Open the HEIC to PNG page, drop your image on the drop zone and press convert. Morphio runs an in-browser image pipeline built on Canvas and WebAssembly codecs, so the HEIC data never leaves your device and no server ever receives a copy.
Colour profile and pixel dimensions are preserved; you choose the quality level before the file is written. Converting HEIC to PNG only rewrites the container and encoding you asked for — the source file on your disk is never modified.
Yes. The free plan covers 10 conversions a day with files up to 200 MB and adds no watermark or sign-up. Morphio Pro ($5/month, or $29 once for lifetime access) removes the daily cap and raises the per-file limit to 5 GB.
HEIC decoding is native in Safari on macOS and iOS. In Chrome, Edge or Firefox the browser may not decode it, in which case Safari — or exporting as JPG on the phone first — is the quickest route.
PNG for editing, text and screenshots; JPG when you are sharing holiday photos and want small files.
