Screenshots and UI exports leave design tools as PNG, and PNG never compresses photographic detail well. WebP keeps the transparency and the sharp edges but rewrites the pixel data with a far smarter codec, so the same image loads in a fraction of the bandwidth.
PNG is a lossless raster format built for screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency. Every pixel survives a save, which is why design and UI work lives in it.
Expect 25–35% smaller files at visually identical quality, and often far more for screenshots with large flat areas. Transparency is preserved exactly. WebP is lossy by default here, so keep the original PNG if the file is a master you will edit again later.
What you gain with WEBP: Noticeably smaller pages, transparency and animation in one format, supported by every current browser.
Drop your PNG file above and Morphio decodes it locally, then re-encodes it as WEBP using WebAssembly + the browser's native codecs. Nothing is ever uploaded — your files stay on your device. Batch as many files as your machine can handle. See exactly how in-browser conversion works.
Open the PNG to WEBP page, drop your image on the drop zone and press convert. Morphio runs an in-browser image pipeline built on Canvas and WebAssembly codecs, so the PNG data never leaves your device and no server ever receives a copy.
Colour profile and pixel dimensions are preserved; you choose the quality level before the file is written. Converting PNG to WEBP only rewrites the container and encoding you asked for — the source file on your disk is never modified.
Yes. The free plan covers 10 conversions a day with files up to 200 MB and adds no watermark or sign-up. Morphio Pro ($5/month, or $29 once for lifetime access) removes the daily cap and raises the per-file limit to 5 GB.
Yes. WebP has a full alpha channel, so transparent backgrounds, rounded corners and soft shadows survive the conversion untouched.
Every current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera renders WebP. Only pre-2020 Safari and Internet Explorer need a JPG or PNG fallback.
